How Our Pewter Pendants Come to Life

J

oin us behind the scenes as we open the doors to our craft and share how each pewter pendant is forged, refined, and awakened into the treasures you discover in our shop.

1. Where Every Tale Begins: The Concept & Design

E

very pendant we create begins long before the metal meets the mold. It starts with a spark that is often born from the stories that shaped us. The inspiration for our creations comes from the books we’ve read, the films and shows that lingered in our minds, the games we’ve explored, and all the worlds that now live in our hearts. These fragments of imagination become ideas we long to carry with us in a more tangible form… and so, a pendant begins to take form.

Once we feel inspired by a particular subject, we start exploring concepts. Sometimes that means gathering references, assembling mood boards, and studying shapes or symbols that resonate with the theme. Other times, the image arrives fully formed, vivid and complete, like a vision simply waiting to be brought to life.

No matter how the idea reveals itself, the next step is always the same: we draw.
Experimenting with silhouettes and details until one design stands out above the rest. The chosen one, having earned its passage into the 3D realm, is then refined digitally, every detail polished until it’s ready to cross into the sculptor’s hands.

2. Where Form Takes Shape: Sculpting & Printing the Master

W

ith the design ready, we move into digitally sculpting the master model — the original piece from which all casts will be born. This “master” must carry every detail we want the final pendant to express, from the subtle ripple of bark-like texture to the sharp definition of a carved sigil.

Once the design is sculpted and virtually shaped exactly as we envision it, it’s time to guide it into the physical world. We begin by preparing the model for printing: carefully slicing it, adding the necessary supports, and ensuring every factor has been considered to achieve the best possible result. Then, using a resin 3D printer, we bring our creation to life.

When the print is complete, we remove the supports and gently clean the prototype with alcohol or acetone before curing it under UV light. Then begins the meticulous work of refinement: filling any tiny support marks with resin, smoothing and sanding each surface, and polishing the details until the master model is crisp, clean, and ready to become the heart of our mold.

3. Capturing the Master’s Essence: Creating the Mold

O

nce the master is perfect, we embed it into silicone to create a durable mold that will faithfully reproduce every detail and be resistant enough to withstand the heat of the molten pewter.

To achieve this, we carefully mix the right silicone, pour it into a mold box (also 3D printed) containing the master model, and allow it to cure for a full 24 hours. Because this is a two-part mold, the process must be repeated for each half, meaning every mold we create takes at least two days to complete.

When both sections have cured, we open the mold like a small book, revealing the negative impression of the design inside. This is the moment the pendant becomes castable, reproducible, and ready for the next chapter of its creation — the metalwork.

4. The Casting Ritual: Molten Pewter Meets the Mold

W

ith the mold complete, it is finally time to awaken the metal. Pewter is a beautiful, ancient alloy, soft enough to capture the most delicate details, strong enough to endure a lifetime of adventures.

The casting ritual begins by heating the pewter until it melts into shimmering liquid silver, watching as it shifts from solid weight to flowing brilliance. While the metal reaches its ideal temperature, we prepare the mold with care, ensuring it is clean, warm, and ready to receive the metal.

Once everything is set, we pour the molten pewter into the mold in a steady, controlled stream, allowing it to fill every curve and contour of the design. As it cools, the metal contracts ever so slightly, easing its release.

This moment always feels a little magical: the first glimpse of the pendant in solid form, still warm from its transformation.

5. Where Craftsmanship Shines: Refining the Pendant

O

nce the raw cast emerges, the true hands-on artistry begins. This step is where a cast becomes a creation — refined by our hands with the utmost care into its final identity.

We start by carefully inspecting each piece, making sure it carries all the details we intended. From there, we file away the excess metal left by the pour, smoothing the edges and leveling any flat surfaces to ensure a clean, comfortable shape.

When the initial shaping is complete, we move through a series of sanding, buffing, and polishing steps, gradually coaxing the metal toward its final finish. Lastly, we brush on a darkened patina, letting it settle into the textures like shadows revealing a tale. Only then does the pendant show its true form, carrying the character and presence it was always meant to hold.

Parting Words

Crafting pewter pendants is equal parts technique and storytelling, each piece shaped by both skill and imagination. We hope this glimpse behind the scenes has brought you a little closer to the heart of our craft, and to the quiet magic we strive to awaken in every creation.

If you ever wear one of our pendants, know that it was formed slowly and thoughtfully, guided by patient hands and the passions that move us to create.

Until the next Chronicle, traveler — may your path be bright, and your curiosity lead you to beautiful discoveries.
